National Bison Day : ウィキペディア英語版
National Bison Day

National Bison Day is a proposed official designated day for the U.S. Government. The United States Senate has approved the idea but it has not yet become law. Members of Indian tribes, bison producers, conservationists, sportsmen, educators, and other public and private partners participated in the first annual National Bison Day on November 1, 2012, and are committed to continuing this tradition annually on the first Saturday of November. There is a growing effort to celebrate and officially recognize the historical, cultural, and economic significance of the North American bison to the heritage of the United States.
The upcoming National Bison Day would have been designated for November 1, 2014 by (S.Res 543 ): "A resolution designating November 1, 2014, as National Bison Day.", agreed to on September 17, 2014 by unanimous consent of the Senate. A similar resolution ((S.Res 254 )) was passed the previous year on October 29, 2013. Neither resolution was voted in the House of Representatives. Both Senate resolutions were introduced by Senator Michael Enzi, Republican from Wyoming.
These resolutions would encourage celebration of the American Bison, also commonly known as the American buffalo, a North American species of bison that once roamed the grasslands of North America in massive herds, became nearly extinct by a combination of commercial Bison hunting and slaughter in the 19th century and introduction of bovine diseases from domestic cattle.
According to the resolutions, bison are considered a historical symbol of the United States, and were integrally linked with the economic and spiritual lives of many Indian tribes through trade and sacred ceremonies. Bison can play an important role in improving the types of grasses found in landscapes to the benefit of grasslands and hold significant economic value for private producers and rural communities.
